Gone are the days when people used to consider witchcraft to be an evil tradition followed only by those who were close to the Satan and his ways. Witches and Spell Casters do exist even in the modern day, and are a far cry from the traditional, stereotypical image of an old, wrinkled lady with a crooked hat and a broomstick.
Witchcraft has evolved from the traditional form, known as the ‘Wicca’, where the teachings and the work of Gerald Gardner inspired witches. Though several offshoots of the traditional Gardenerian Wicca still continue to exist, other varied forms have also developed. Traditional Wiccans were recognized by their belief in the universal balance of the male and the female divinity. In recent times, particularly around the decade of the 70s, a newer version of Wicca was seen to develop. The structure of witchcraft that modern witches follow is broader and looser as compared to the traditional form. Their practice includes eclectic combinations of pagan as well as non-pagan rituals. Modern witches and spell casters have branched out into several different forms and types of witchcraft. They do cast spells, rituals and incantations, though in a more evolved but still very successful version.
Most witches adopt solitary methods of practice. They now take the liberty to perform their rituals, cast their spells and follow their beliefs in their personal, private way. One stark difference that is seen to set the modern witches apart from their ancestors is that they do not stick to wearing only black. Though black is still a prominent colour of choice among witches for its attributes in attracting and preserving energy, many spell casters today also opt for other colours, including purple and green.
There are many witches, spell casters and wizards around the world who are utilizing their magical abilities to improve life around them and for the others. They are known to practice their religion without any form of force or pressure on any body.
